PRACTICAL HINTS
CLIMATE:
End of April, beginning of May brings usually nice spring weather: slightly colder mornings and blazing afternoons. Temperatures of around 15°-18°C can be expected.
TRANSPORTATION:
Arriving by plane
The Prague-Ruzyne Airport, located 15 km from the city center and approx. 7 km from the workshop venue, is served by many international airlines. The cost of a taxi from the Ruzyne Airport to the City is at present about 20 EUR. The shuttle bus service operates as well. City bus No. 119 will take you from the airport to the metro station Nádraží Veleslavín.
Arriving by train or by car
Prague can be easily reached by rail as well as by car. If you arrive by train, you will find a metro station (line C) at the Central Railway Station as well as at the Holešovice Railway Station.
City transportation
City transportation Prague has a comprehensive network of public transportation consisting of three metro lines, trams and buses. Single tickets or travel passes can be purchased at most newspaper stands and from the coin machines at metro stations.
Car rental
Most of the major car rental companies (e.g. Avis, Sixt) have their offices in Prague. Detailed information is available from the Symposium secretariat. We strictly recommend making reservations in advance.
Parking
The Czech Technical University in Prague has its own parking lot free of charge.
CURRENCY:
The official currency is Czech Crown (CZK/Kč). Present average rate is 25,50 CZK for 1 EUR. Major credit cards are accepted in many shops, restaurants and hotels. You can buy Czech Crowns at banks and other authorized money exchange offices. Traveler's cheques are accepted only by leading banks.
VISA POLICY:
Participants from most European countries and the USA can enter the Czech Republic without a visa. Other participants are advised to check the requirements at the closest Embassy or Consulate of the Czech Republic and to make their own arrangements. Detail information can be found on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. An official letter of invitation can be sent on request. It must be understood that such a letter cannot grant any financial support.
INSURANCE:
The Organizing Committee will not accept any liability for personal injuries or loss or damage of property belonging to Symposium participants and accompanying persons. Kindly check your personal insurance as well as your travel insurance (important for any cancellation fees, very often a part of your credit card contract).
ELECTRICITY:
In the Czech Republic, the electricity supply is 230 V, 50 Hz.
